ICE - The Italian Institute for Foreign Trade, as a part of the Piano Export Sud programme, which promotes export from the southern Italian regions: Calabria, Campania, Apulia and Sicily, in the middle of February organizes in Belgrade a string of events aimed at presenting the autochtonous varieties from these regions.

The event entitled the Days of Wines from Southern Italy starts in Mercator hypermarket in Novi Beograd and Idea at Ušće and Beograđanka, where from February 10th to 12th at the guided tastings, our guests will be able to experience and enjoy these wines.

From February 13th up to 28th, Days of Wines from Southern Italy shall continue in the selected restaurants will have a chance to taste these exceptional wines from the four Italian regions, as well as to enjoy in a specially crafted menus by the head chefs from the five iconic Belgrade restaurants (Madera, Dva Jelena, Campania, Rustik and Klub Književnika). In that manner, the tastes and aromas of the Southern Italy shall be re-created in the best way imaginable.

In addition to this, we have selected 11 wine shops, where the programs are planned, so that visitors may attend wine tastings, promotions and specially prepared dinners and where under the favorable conditions they may purchase some of these top wines.

A part of these promotions is a string of masterclasses, workshops, tastings and presentations crafted for the professionals. For this purpose, we shall have a famous enologist from Italy Ms. Barbara Tamburini in attendance. She is a top professional, and her expertise is reaching much further than her native Tuscany and Italy. More than 150 wine producers and viticulturists are being consulted by Ms, Tamburini. As a wine lover from the very young age, she is well know for her sensitivity when approaching wine and studies its potential, always intrinsically connected with the terroir of the wine grapes. She is dedicated to research and ready at any point in time to test and apply novel approaches. She is very competent pertaining to market trends in the wine industry. During her recent visit to Serbia, in November 2016, she stated that Serbia is getting more and more attractive on the global wine scene.

It is also important to mention that Italy is the biggest world wine producer for quite some time, and it is estimated that in 2016 the total production may reach 48,5 millions of hectolitres. Italy is also the biggest wine exporter, particularly thanks to significant investments in wine producing technologies, which in the past few years contributed immensely towards the quality improvements and top quality wine offerings in general. The extreme richness and uniqueness of the wine tradition is characteristics of all four southern wine regions, namely Calabria, Campania, Apulia and Sicily. It includes indigenous varieties, new technologies in wine production and storing, coupled with the support from the Piano Export Sud programme - a special set of activities financed by Italian Ministry for Economic Development. Our importers, sommeliers, journalists, winelovers as well as experts from the region, who are invited, will have a chance to learn more about the wines from the Italian Southern regions.

Offices of ICE Agency from the countries of this region (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary) are sending 60 selected delegates, among which are some of the biggest importers and wine and spirits distributors from these countries as well as representatives from the key media specialized for wine and wine culture.
